Kodiak’s Most Enjoyable Way to Fish the Legendary Saltery River

We’ve been fishing the Saltery River for almost 30 years. We’ve got the largest fleet of Can-Am Defenders and the only backcountry facilities in Saltery Cove. Come fish with the guides who live on the river.

At Saltery Adventures, we work hard to make sure your Alaska trip happens the way it should—without breakdowns, cancellations, or missed fishing opportunities.

One thing that truly sets us apart is that we have a full-time mechanic on staff. The trail to Saltery Cove is aggressive and hard on equipment. Because we constantly maintain and service our machines, our vehicles are always ready to run. The last thing anyone wants is to come all the way to Alaska and miss their trip because of a mechanical problem.

Many of the clients we take out actually come from other outfits that have equipment failures or simply don’t have enough machines to run their trips. We maintain a large fleet with plenty of backup machines, so your trip isn’t at risk.

We run Can-Am Defender UTVs, widely considered the most reliable and comfortable machines for this trail. They provide a smooth ride, plenty of room, and the dependability needed for the rugged country around Saltery Cove.

Comfort and Capability in the Backcountry

When you’re miles out in the Alaska wilderness, the little things make a big difference.

We provide amenities that no other operation in the area offers:

  • The only restroom facility in Saltery Cove
  • A covered gazebo so you can get out of the rain while eating lunch
  • Dryers to warm and dry soaked gear
  • Emergency shelter facilities if weather turns
  • On some days, we serve a hot meal, which is a huge morale boost after fishing in cold rain.

We also provide internet access at certain river locations, allowing you to check in with family or work even while you’re deep in the backcountry.

Experience That Matters

Our guides are on the river every day, tracking fish movement, tides, water levels, and weather patterns. Because of this, we know when the fish move through specific holes, how tides affect the run, and the best times to fish certain sections of the river.

We have over 30 years of experience fishing the Saltery River, and since we live out there much of the year, we know the river better than anyone.

A better way to catch sockeye

One of the biggest things that separates us from other outfits is how we fish.

Many places use the “flip and pull” method, which is essentially snagging fish.

At Saltery Adventures, we use a different technique that is closer to traditional fly fishing. It’s extremely effective and much more rewarding. Even if you’ve never fly fished before, we can teach you the method and help you successfully catch sockeye and silver salmon.

In fact, many of our guests have never fly fished in their lives, yet they leave the river landing fish and feeling like real anglers.
